Food and Drinks

es, it’s technically in Burbank. Yes, the cafe’s service is often slow. And, yes, the menu is overpriced. But, none of that changes the fact that I’ve eaten a lot of breakfast sandwiches in Los Angeles, and Coffee Commissary’s Burbank Biscuit breakfast sandwich is the one I fantasize about at night before I fall asleep or after (or during) a tough gym workout. The perfectly cooked free range egg, sharp cheddar, and crispy bacon (optional) are great, but it’s the buttery, flaky biscuit — baked fresh every day by the Commissary’s in-house bakery — that turns the creation into a masterpiece. I also love the salty potatoes with ketchup that come on the side. For a perfect morning, top it off with their delicious iced vanilla latte, one of the best coffees in Los Angeles with special made-in-house vanilla syrup.
Honorable Mention: The Fairfax from Eggslut in the Grand Central Market downtown is also excellent. (Though, sigh, I miss when Eggslut was a food truck that traveled around the city.) WB
