uring a Route 66 road trip with one of my best friends in 2011, we stopped at the brick-red, Arcadia Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma. There, we met Mr. Sam (Sam Gillaspy), a farmer and tour guide who told us that the 1898-built barn was designed with excellent acoustics and a beautiful hardwood floor, making it perfect for use as a barn dance venue. After we toured the first-floor museum, Mr. Sam took us to the second floor, where, to our surprise, he proceeded to give us a dance lesson. Mr. Sam taught me and my friend some simple dance steps, and, soon enough, she and I were waltzing. We were alone in the barn, but, as we danced, it was easy to imagine us boogying through a rowdy, turn-of-the-century dance party. WB
