hankfully, the demise of frequent cash and plastic credit card transactions seems inevitable — but, unfortunately, that day seems to be arriving much too slowly. In the meantime, we’re all still carrying two bulky objects in our jeans’ pockets (or purses) everywhere we go: a wallet (filled with cash and plastic cards) and a smartphone. Recently, however, I discovered a decent interim solution to this problem: CM4’s Q Card Case. I used to be staunchly against phone cases, because they make smartphones unnecessarily fat and look tacky too. But, because the Q Card protects smartphones and carries up to three plastic cards, I was persuaded otherwise. As soon as I bought one, I put my driver’s license, debit card, and a credit card into the rubberized pocket and ditched my wallet. Now, whenever I’m at home in the USA (where the credit card economy has taken over everywhere in cities), I carry only my smartphone, without a wallet. My jeans fit better, and I have one fewer thing to remember when leaving home in the morning. It’s the best I can do until we’re finally able to throw out our cash and credit cards and use our smartphone to pay for everything.
Full disclosure: I still keep some cash in my car’s glove compartment for those annoying parking garages that only accept cash. In addition, when I’m outside the US, I still carry a wallet: there are too many places and situations abroad where cash is a necessity.
Note: My previous pick, Speck’s SmartFlex Card wallet phone case, is still a good product, but I like the CM4’s faux leather and how svelte it is in comparison. WB
